Grace Potter and the Nocturnals’ soulful mesh of blues, rock and folk ooze a Southern finesse, scrapping the theatrics for the basics and creating an indefinable style that many bands are hesitant to explore. And while others rely on synthetics and auto-tune to carry their music, Potter relies on nothing more than her piercing vocals and the Nocturnals’ raw guitars.
GPN’s roots are seeded deep in the earlier days of rock ‘n’ roll. Bands like Little Feat, Big Brother and the Holding Company and Jefferson Airplane have obvious influence over their focus. They even performed Airplane’s hit “White Rabbit” on VH1 in October, when they were selected as a “You Oughta Know” Artist on the Rise.
Performing Sunday, July 3 at 7:00pm on the Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Main Stage
