When you see the band named Girl Talk on the line-up, the last thing you’d expect to see is one man – a former biomedical engineer, no less – and a laptop. But that’s exactly the point. In the world of experimental digital music in which some artists seem to take themselves all-too-seriously, Girl Talk’s mastermind Gregg Gillis is a tongue-in-cheek breath of fresh air.
Specializing in digital mash-ups, Gillis has taken the genre by storm, often smashing more than a dozen samples from across all genres into one brilliant, synergistic track in which the final outcome is definitely worth more than the sum of its many sampled parts.
