Generationals

New Orleans natives and singer/multi-instrumentalists Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer make up the indie duo Generationals. The group recently released its second album, Actor-Caster, after spending several hot summer months locked up in a recording studio, which helps explain some of the melancholic bent of the band’s lyrics on the second album. The duo’s songwriting combines a modern twist with the vibe of classic pop cuts. In addition, they still use analog equipment and tape machines to record their albums to keep that raw ’60s sound. However, to keep things modern the duo uses everything from shimmering synth lines and spare handclaps to lonesome keys and lacerated drum loops on certain songs. The duo began performing together at age 13 when trying to learn Beatles tracks on their first guitars. With the growth of a close friendship over the years, the Generationals have been able to use that to their advantage to develop their own sound.
