The second annual 80/35 music festival on July 3 and 4 in downtown Des Moines packs in the fun for the entire family. The 80/35 Dahl’s Kids Zone has been expanded this year to include some of Central Iowa’s best children’s performers, an inflatable play area and several interactive activities. Best of all, the 80/35 Kid Zone is free, no festival ticket is needed to participate in the fun.
Performances and activities will occur on Friday from 3pm-7pm and Saturday from 11am-6pm. Some of the performers slated to appear are: “Freight Train” Frank Strong who will bring his interactive songs and story telling, Vagabon Tribe will set the beat with their interactive drum circle and Terry the Magic Guy will bring his stage show that consists of a high energy magic act and balloon sculpting. In addition, there will be a gymnastics demonstration by the Team Gymnastics Academy and an opportunity to learn Hula Hoop tricks from the Sparkle Hoop Dance Group.
Kids will have lots of room to run around and burn off steam in the Dahl’s Kids Zone. An inflatable playground complete with a 42 foot train, bounce house and giant obstacle course will be available for the kids to explore.
Located in the free area of the festival, the 80/35 Dahl’s Kids Zone is at the corner of Grand and 13th Street in downtown Des Moines.
“We hope that a lot of families check out 80/35 this year,” said Amedeo Rossi, Greater Des Moines Music Coalition project manager. “There will be lots of great music on our free stages and the children’s performers are sure to please a wide range of ages and tastes. I can’t think of a better way for a family to spend the Fourth of July weekend in Des Moines.”
Children under 11 will be admitted for free to the paid, gated area of the festival when accompanied by a parent or guardian processing a ticket. Children 11 and older will be charged regular admission.
