Seven high school bands competed last night in DM Palooza at People’s Court for a slot in the 80/35 music festival alongside industry giants like Public Enemy and Ben Harper. The winning band, Buster and the Punks from Urbandale will perform on Friday, July 3rd at 4pm on the Mediacom East Stage.
Sponsored by the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) to the City of Des Moines, eleven bands auditioned and were evaluated by YAB on three criteria: stage presence, preparedness, and overall sound. To qualify, band members had to be high school students or recent graduates.
The seven bands with the highest scores received the opportunity to play in DM Palooza. The groups that performed were Buster and the Punks, Sons of Rexroth, Justice League Obituary, Catmilk, Chatty Cathys, Steel Legion and 4shoproductions, with music ranging from folk rock to punk to rap/hip-hop.
Congratulations to all the bands that participated and we look forward to watching Buster and the Punks on Friday.
